An Entire Family. Countless Victims. One Voice.

The numbers are staggering – thousands of children in Pennsylvania alone were sexually abused by hundreds of leaders in the Catholic Church.  But, it’s the individual stories that will leave you unable to look the other way. The Fortney Family is using their story as a key to unlock the chains of silence.

Our Story

Out of our nine siblings, five of us were sexually abused by our priest, a trusted man we were taught to believe was “God on Earth,” the mediator between God and man. The abuse began when we were young girls ranging in ages from two to thirteen. Continuing over a period of ten years, our accounts are disturbing. And, although five of us were sexually abused, the mental and emotional manipulation impacted our entire family.

This is just one family’s story.  There are thousands more.

The details of the atrocities differ, but one thread is consistent – there is a need for healing.  The Fortney Family is committed to advocating for healing as they continue to walk out their own journey and invite others to join them.

The purpose of Fortneys For Healing is to shine a light on the sexual exploitation of children and its coverup by church leaders; and more importantly, to bring resources for healing and advocacy for the changes needed to prevent future abuse.  We invite you to complete the form below so we can notify you as we add valuable resources and information to our website.  Or, feel free to share your thoughts or questions.

Follow the Fortney Family as they advocate for reform.

Our Mission

Our mission is to use our story to unlock the chains of silence and bring healing to the unique violation of sexual abuse by leaders in the faith community. We seek healing for victims, for their families and for the church.
